RMHS Baseball Begins State Tourney Play at Home

RMHS Baseball begins state tourney play Thursday.

The Reading Rockets baseball team earned the 3rd seed in the Division 2 North rankings and will begin tournament play today, May 31st.  Reading faces #14 ranked Masconomet at 4 pm at Morton Field in Reading.  The state tournament is a single elimination tournament.  The winner of today's game will advance and play the winner of the Wilmington/Lynn Classical game which also occurs today.

PHOTOS: RMHS Baseball Awaits Tournament Seeding after Busy Memorial Day Weekend

RMHS Baseball played three games this past weekend.

It was a busy weekend at Morton Memorial Field this weekend as the RMHS Rockets took on three opponents in two days. With good weather overhead, the Rockets took on Northhampton High School who came in for the day to play against Reading and St. Peter Marian in the First Annual Reading Baseball Alumni Tournament. Reading defeated Northhampton 5-0. On Monday the weather held out and Reading split the day. In their first outing against St. Peter Marian, Reading went down 5-1.  Reading took a short break, shook off the loss and came out at 4 p.m. against Arlington, a Middlesex League opponent. Reading defeated Arlington 2-1 in a fairly quick, 87 minute outing. Reading awaits their MIAA Tournament seeding and is expecting to play on May 31st …

Hornets' Home Opener Spoiled by North Andover

North Reading hockey falls to 0-2 on the young season after 4-2 loss to the Scarlet Knights.

The Hornet skaters had their 2010-11 home opener ruined by the Scarlet Knights of North Andover, falling 4-2 at Burbank Ice Arena in Reading on Thursday night. After falling behind 3-1, North Reading (0-2) ran out of time trying to catch up to a more experienced Knights squad. "I thought we came out slow and we paid the price," said North Reading coach John Giuliotti. "We're still the victim of a bunch of kids that are young." A phenomenal goal by Billy Sexton in the third period brought the Hornets within one, but Knights' sophomore Jake Silk was not to be denied on this occasion. The young winger figured in all four of North Andover's tallies as he netted a goal in the final minute to ice the game, capping a three-assist and one-goal …
