Rockets Battle Back for Draw With Woburn [VIDEO]

Despite falling behind 3-0 within the blink of an eye, the Reading boys hockey team escaped with a 3-3 draw on Wednesday night.

What a difference a month makes. After dominating Woburn, 7-1, on January 12, it was the Tanners who pounced to a 3-0 lead on Wednesday night at Burbank Arena. But the Rockets bounced back nicely, chipping away and eventually coming away with a 3-3 tie. Reading, ranked No. 4 in the state by ESPN Boston, is still in the middle of the conversation for a Super 8 berth thanks to its 12-1-5 record. But on Wednesday it was Woburn that looked like the top tier team. Matt McLelland began to turn the tides, however, as he scored with 3:37 left in the opening frame. Mike Thomson sliced the deficit to 3-2 early in the second period, and it appeared the Rockets had knotted the score with 4:10 left in the frame. But Robert Diloreto's goal was waved off…

Murphy Teaching Skills Beyond the Mat [VIDEO]

Reading High School wrestling coach Craig Murphy said he aims to teach his wrestlers lessons that they can apply throughout their lives.

In addition to leading the Reading High School wrestling team to a 19-3 dual meet record, head coach Craig Murphy is a special education teacher at Coolidge Middle School. As part of a new feature, Patch will feature interviews with Reading coaches on a weekly basis. Check back to learn more about the men and women on the sidelines leading the Rockets.

Reading Teams Jockeying for Playoff Positioning

A handful of Rocket teams are in the playoff picture, hoping to improve their chances in the final two weeks of the regular season.

It's been a stellar winter season for Reading teams, and several Rocket squads are hoping to improve their playoff prospects with just two weeks remaining in the regular season. The girls gymnastics team is the first Reading team in action this week, traveling to Arlington at 6 p.m. on Monday. On Tuesday, it's the basketball teams that take their turn versus Arlington. The unbeaten juggernaut girls basketball team hosts Arlington in a 5:30 p.m. tilt while the boys team hopes to improve its playoff chances at 7 p.m. against the same foe. The Rockets boys team is currently in second place, which would be good for a playoff spot. However, Winchester and Arlington are right behind the locals in the standings.
