The following was submitted by the Reading Public Library: If you have always wanted to learn how to play chess; if you used to play but haven’t in a while, or if you are a veteran chess player who needs a partner, drop into the Reading Public Library on Saturday, July 21 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. to join a game. The Library will have tables set up for players of all ages and abilities. (Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult). High School and Middle School-aged volunteers will be available to teach chess to beginners of all ages. Come alone, or bring a friend for an hour of fun. Chess sets will be provided. Join the Henry VIII-inspired Adult summer Reading Program, Despot Housewives.
The following was submitted by the Reading Public Library: Get into the spirit of our medieval-themed summer at the Reading Public Library with our Henry VIII-inspired Adult summer Reading Program, Despot Housewives. This is a self-service reading club for people who read anyway and would like to win a prize. The main floor of the library has been transformed into a medieval world for the program which runs from June 25 to August 17. There is no registration for the program, and it’s easy to participate. Each time you complete a book or audiobook, fill out an author/title slip at the library and deposit it at the “The Tower” display. Submissions may also be made online, from the library’s website. The following was submitted by the Reading Public Library: The Kingdom of Readalot opens Friday, June 15 at the Reading Public Library for all children to join “Castle Quest”, the Children’s Summer Reading Program. All future knights and ladies are invited to take the challenge and count their reading/listening time- be it with regular books, eBooks, books on CD or Playaways. Children will stamp their progress toward the castle and participate in weekly raffles. All finishers will receive their choice of prize books, a paper castle to hang and will be “knighted”! Reading and listening time will earn participants gold coins which will help others eat through The Greater Boston Food Bank. Will we make our goal of providing 1000 meals? …

The Friends of Reading Public Library sponsor 15 museum passes, and passes for the Lowell Spinners and Pawtucket Red Sox games for the library. Other local groups sponsor six others. Did you know that the library had these passes?Which pass is your favorite? The passes either get you in for free or at a reduced cost, and can be taken out of the library for free.
