The Women Celebrating Business and Entertainment expo is May 17.
The Reading-North Reading Chamber of Commerce is hosting their 6th Annual “Women Celebrating” business expo fundraiser on May 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Boston/Woburn Hilton Hotel in Woburn. Thirty-five vendors selling items such as handbags, jewelry and clothing will attend. Food from local restaurants such as the Horseshoe Grille, Not Your Average Joe’s, Bertucci’s and more will be available. The event will feature musical entertainment as well as a Zumba dance performance. At the event, local salons Axle Color Studio, Salon 77, Embelleish, Salon Muffie, and Primp at Tiffany’s will each choose a woman to receive a free makeover. The Reading-North Reading Chamber of Commerce and Brissonte Gifts & Home Décor are partnering with local businesses in the second annual holiday window display contest to benefit local charities. All you have to do is take a look at the window displays and vote for your favorite! The contest will run until Christmas Eve and business owners are counting on your vote. Pay one dollar to vote and the winning business will get bragging rights and a $500 donation to their favorite charity sponsored by Brissonté. Dear Editor, On Thursday, August 23rd, the Reading-North Reading Chamber of Commerce sponsored its first “Cash Mob” at The Chocolate Truffle in Reading. On this day, due to the overwhelming support of our Chamber members and the community, the owners of The Chocolate Truffle tripled their sales proving the event a real success! The goal of the Cash Mob was to provide continued support to our incredible Chamber members and to remind the public of the importance of buying local. This is not just a trendy saying; the effort to purchase products and services within our town does have an impact: For every $1 spent at a local business, 45 cents is reinvested locally. The following was submitted by the Reading-North Reading Chamber of Commerce: The Reading-North Reading Chamber of Commerce hosted its fifth Annual Women Celebrating fundraiser on Wednesday, May 10, in the ballroom of the Boston/Woburn Hilton Hotel in Woburn. The annual event is aimed at showcasing women-centered vendors in an expo-like setting. More than 40 vendors took part in the event which hosted more than 350 guests. The Burbank YMCA is a common bond between the women.
When Jacqueline Carson stood at the microphone at Wednesday night's award ceremony held by the Chamber of Commerce, the first thing she said, after “Wow,” was that she considers Kathleen Walsh her sister. Not by parentage. They worked together for a number of years at the Burbank YMCA. Carson and Walsh share another gene. Previously, Collins was the executive director of the Reading-North Reading Chamber of Commerce. She was responsible for directing all initiatives of the organization including community development, board development, volunteer management and fund-raising. Board of Selectmen Chairman Robert Mauceri was honored along with members of the North Reading Police and Fire departments.
Board of Selectmen Chairman Robert Mauceri and members of the North Reading Police and Fire departments were honored during the Reading-North Reading Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizens Awards Ceremony on Thursday night at the Hillview Country Club. Mauceri was recognized as the Outstanding Citizen of the Year for North Reading. Capt. Don Cooke, who recently retired from the North Reading Fire Department, was named North Reading Firefighter of the Year for 2010. Sgt. Michael Murphy and Officer James Carcia of the North Reading Police Department were named North Reading Police Officers of the Year for 2010.
