In a rematch of last year’s Division 2 Semifinal, the Rockets got their revenge over Tewksbury with a 42-6 dismantling of the Redmen at Reading High last night. “We definitely had revenge on our mind this year and we were clicking on all cylinders,” said Reading quarterback Drew Belcher, whose incredible night led the Rockets to a 12-0 record. Belcher completed nine passes for 126 yards and a touchdown, and rushed nine times for 105 yards and four touchdowns. “We worked all offseason to come back and make it to this game,” said receiver Ryan Maney. “They pretty much beat our butt last year,” said the Gronk-like pass catcher who hauled in five catches for 87 yards and had a 61 yard rushing touchdown. The Rockets also benefitted from running…

The Rockets finished 17-7 overall and captured a Middlesex League title by beating Woburn by one point in Woburn.
After a story book regular season for the Reading boys’ basketball team (17-7, 8-2 Middlesex League), their tournament run came to an end Saturday night versus a team they were very familiar with, the Melrose Red Raiders. The Red Raiders edged the Rockets by a score of 61-56. The season had many memories from winning a Middlesex league title to celebrating milestones of 1,000 points scored by Kenny Reed and Jerry-Ellis Williams, but junior Nate Clarke remembers the chemistry between the entire team throughout the year. “We all had our eyes on the offensive or defensive end of the floor,” Clarke said. “Having five or six kids in double digits for scoring in a few games out of the season is pretty impressive and represents an unselfish team …

The Rockets edged the Salem Witches 55-34 on Friday night led by Olivia Healy, Melissa DalPozzo and Morgan O'Brien who combined for 50 of the team's 55 total points.
The undefeated lady Rockets had no problem with the Salem Witches on Friday night defeating them by a score of 55-34. The Rockets were led by their three-headed monster of Olivia Healy (18 points), Melissa DalPozzo (17 points) and Morgan O’Brien (15 points). The Lady Rockets (21-0) got off to a rather slow start in the first quarter but were able to start executing their play calls that lead to a 15-7 lead. Head coach Kim Penney acknowledged that her team was pressing at first, but after a few set plays, the team went on a run. “We had a slow start and were missing layups,” Penney said. “We played a hard and physical game and just played through it.” Kim Penney made it clear that this week was no different than any other week of …

The Rockets led by Kenny Reed (19 points) defeated the Concord Carlisle Patriots 54-38 in the first round of the State tournament on Tuesday night in Reading. The Rockets will play the winner of Marlbehead and Melrose later this week.
The Reading Rockets (15-6) suffocated the Concord-Carlisle Patriots (12-9) on Tuesday night beating them 54-38 in front of a packed Hawkes Field House in the opening round of the MIAA Division II North Sectionals. The Rockets defense was stout through four quarters and Heach Coach Paul Morrisey was very pleased with the team’s defensive effort. “I thought defensively we were excellent,” Morrisey said. “We were flying and did what we wanted all night.” The Rockets were out to a commanding lead after one quarter by a score of 15-4 behind the strong point guard play of Kenny Reed. Reed contributed with 19 points and was all over the court offensively and defensively. “Kenny is a senior and he wants to leave his mark,” Morrisey said. “He …

The Reading Boys hockey team had a convincing win versus BC High, but it was not enough to get them into the Super 8. Reading will battle Acton-Boxboro tonight in the Division I North Sectionals.
The Reading Boys hockey team was knocking on the door of the Super 8 after they knocked off powerhouse BC High, but their run fell a little short as they were not included in the big dance. In consolation, the Rockets earned a five seed in the Division I North bracket and will face off versus No. 12 Acton-Boxboro Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at the Chelmsford Forum. The Rockets tried to do everything they possibly could to earn a shot at the Super 8, but just fell a few votes short. The team battled through numerous injuries to win the Middlesex League Large School Division as well as challenge for a Super 8 berth after being practically written off at the start of the season by many. Junior and left-winger Andrew Narahara knew the season …

Rockets lose 21-6.
Three short months ago, it would have been difficult to find anyone who thought the Tewksbury High football team was going anywhere this season. On Saturday, the Redmen are going to Gillette Stadium to play in the MIAA Division 2 Super Bowl. Led by stellar efforts from their three senior tri-captains -- quarterback Kevin Saunders, running back Chris Bettano and linebacker Derek Tarpey -- coach Brian Aylward's Tewksbury High Redmen once again played the role of giant killers Tuesday night, storming into Reading to steam-roll the heavily favored Rockets, 21-6 in an Eastern Mass Divison 2 playoff game. Bettano carried 21 times for 75 yards and a touchdown, and also caught an 11-yard touchdown pass. Saunders completed 5-of-8 passes for 65 …
