Must-Reads From the 2012 Mass Book Awards

The Massachusetts Book Awards list for 2012 includes some of the year's best-selling titles.

Thanks to the hustle and bustle of the school year and our busy work weeks, we don't always have time to pick up a book and read. But now that summer is here and in full swing, we have some extra time and we're taking advantage!  As part of our Woburn Patch summer reading guide, we look at the Massachusetts Book Awards Lists for 2012, as determined by the Mass Center for the Book. Get the Scoop on Summer Reading at Reading Senior Center

Readalot in Reading

Summer Reading at the Reading Public Library starts on June 15.

The following was submitted by the Reading Public Library: The Kingdom of Readalot opens Friday, June 15 at the Reading Public Library for all children to join “Castle Quest”, the Children’s Summer Reading Program. All future knights and ladies are invited to take the challenge and count their reading/listening time- be it with regular books, eBooks, books on CD or Playaways.  Children will stamp their progress toward the castle and participate in weekly raffles.  All finishers will receive their choice of prize books, a paper castle to hang and will be “knighted”! Reading and listening time will earn participants gold coins which will help others eat through The Greater Boston Food Bank.  Will we make our goal of providing 1000 meals? …

Best-selling Author Inspires at Flint Memorial Library

Chuck Hogan, author of “Prince of Thieves,” which was turned into the movie “The Town” spoke at the North Reading library Tuesday night.

Being an author is hard work and is often filled with at least initial disappointment. Author Chuck Hogan’s hard work paid off with not only a best-selling book “Prince of Thieves,” but a popular film “The Town” starring Ben Affleck. Born in Hyde Park and raised on the South Shore, Hogan was not brought up in an artistic family, but was drawn to storytelling. “I remember going to movies, reading books. I felt I was getting more out of it and getting into it more than my friends were,” he told the audience at the Friends of the Flint Memorial Library event. He looked well past his surroundings for his first books, including an unpublished 800-page novel called “Small Town Murders.” “That’s all you really need to know about that,” Hogan …
