Vanilla Cream Pie Never Tasted So Good

On Friday, I kept my promise to Reading and North Reading residents and took a pie in the face. Click the link at the bottom of the article to see the video.

After a horrific week full of tragedy and tears, I ended it with a pie. A delicious, vanilla cream pie. In the face. Last week, North Reading learned of the untimely death of Tim Chaloux. Monday, we all heard about the marathon bombings and everyone was glued to their television or computer for the next several days watching the events unfold.  Naturally, I thought of cancelling my "pie event" on Friday. After giving it some thought, I realized that a little laughter could be just what we needed. I couldn't be happier with my decision. Last week I had been wondering why someone would hurt so many people and why some are taken from this world too soon. How could this happen in our amazing city? Then on Friday, for one hour, I didn't think …

Editor Ashley Troutman Taking Pie in Face for Fans

It's pie time!

Remember when I said I would take a pie in the face if Reading and North Reading Patch's Facebook pages got to 1,000 likes? Well, they did. So the time has come for me to take a pie in the face. North Reading Patch's Food Blogger Julia Robarts has offered to make the pie and we've asked our 1,000th fan from Reading Ariela Grinnell to throw it. Stop by the Flint Memorial Library Activity Room on Friday, April 19 at 4 p.m. for refreshments, giveaways and to see the pieing! If you can't make it, NORCAM will be taping the whole thing for our next episode of Patch's Town Talk. So you will get the chance to see it, but I'd love your support. If you aren't busy, meet us at the library on Friday! I hope to see you there! It's pie time! It's not …

Pieing Rescheduled to Next Friday at 4

Editor Ashley Troutman will take a pie in the face next Friday at the library at 4 p.m.

I am sad to announce that I will not be able to take a pie in the face tomorrow, Friday, April 12 due to the weather. Given that the "pieing" was supposed to take place outside, and it is supposed to be rainy and cold all day tomorrow, the event had to be rescheduled. We are now going to have the "Pie in the Face" event next Friday, April 19 at 4 p.m. at the Flint Memorial Library in North Reading. I hope you are still able to make it. We will still have light refreshments in the Activity Room and then the "pieing" will take place in the parking lot.

Reading-North Reading: You Spoke, We Listened

On Thursday we are going back to two separate sites.

We have a big announcement to make. On Thursday, February 7 we will be restoring Reading Patch and North Reading Patch back to two separate sites.   Based on the feedback we’ve seen from you, our faithful readers and advertisers, it was just good common sense to return these original sites. Now, instead of asking you to find the news and information you need from one site, each town will have one, dedicated place: right here: North Reading Patch or Reading Patch! We know … well, why did you change it? We had hoped to offer you the same robust coverage of everything happening in both towns. We discovered tremendous support for our continued coverage of the things that matter to residents of each community!

Changes to Reading-North Reading Patch

We made a few changes to our homepage.

No, you're not losing it! Patch looks a bit different today. We made a few changes to the homepage to make it even more user-friendly. And we've moved a couple pieces of furniture. For those keeping score:  * We tweaked some words in our navigation bar to save space (e.g., "Traffic & Gas" is now "Commute")  * We moved the weather icon next to the Patch branding so you can find it more quickly!  * We moved, well, YOU closer to the top! (Our "shout stream" is now front and center to show all your comments off.)  * And of course we prettified a few things.  While the site might look a little different, we still offer the same robust coverage of everything happening in Reading and North Reading. That was, is, and will always be our mission. We…
