Submitted by the North Reading Secondary Schools Building Committee. The SSBC would like to update you with the upcoming schedule of events that is happening with the building project. We will be having a meeting with the abutters of the school project on June 12 at 7 p.m. in the Large Group Room in the middle school. On June 26 and 28, we will have our SSBC meetings at 6:30 p.m. in the high school modular café. Our Owner’s Project Manger (OPM), PMA Consultants, has been working with our Construction Manager, Gilbane, in securing a moving company to relocate the middle school modular classrooms and relocate/install temporary utilities. They have had multiple meetings with the teachers to pack up the modular class rooms and make the move …

Town receives lower than expected bond interest rate.
Three days after the last day of school this month, construction will begin on the new North Reading High School/Middle School campus. North Reading Secondary Schools Building Committee Chairman Chuck Carucci said Monday that shovels will go into the ground on June 18 for the $107.7 million project, which voters approved overwhelmingly in March. The town also received good news about the funding of the project. Selectmen Chairman Sean Delaney said Fidelity Capital came in with the lowest bond interest rate for the project -- and that interest rate was smaller than initially estimated. Rather than the predicted 4 percent bond interest rate, North Reading’s bond will feature a 3.5 percent interest rate. Delaney said town officials will know …

Gilbane is ranked the #1 builder in the country of K-12 schools by Building Design + Construction, with nearly 400 schools built in the last five years. The project passed at Town Meeting on Monday with two-thirds majority vote. The new high school is projected to open in 2014, and the middle school in 2015. The total cost for a new middle/high school will be $107.7 million. The Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) will reimburse 51.49 percent of eligible costs.
