Sights of Reading Calendar Supports the Community!
The recipient of the beautiful “Sights of Reading” calendar will be thinking of you all year long as they view the photos from around Reading. Hollingsworth Field, Old South Church, Town Forest, Reading Post Office, and Meadowbrook are a few of the locations showcased in the 11” x 17” hanging calendar. Each month features an 8.5” x 11" photograph. The proceeds raised from the calendar sales will benefit Gold Award community service projects. The Gold Award is the highest and most prestigious award any Girl Scout can earn. The projects involve many hours of work and are meant to make a mark on the community that creates a lasting impact on lives of others. The Danversbank Charitable Foundation awarded Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts a grant.
The Danversbank Charitable Foundation awarded Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts a grant to purchase a new pool lift for Camp Rice Moody in Reading. This lift will ensure that all girls are able to use the pool and cool off on a hot summer day. Camp Rice Moody provides camp for more than 340 girls in grades 1-8 from June to August annually. While at camp, girls have the opportunity to participate in a wide array of programming, including swimming. Girl Scouts of Eastern Mass.’ goal is to continue to ensure that every girl has the equal opportunity to participate in activities, share her abilities and socialize with her peers at camp. The Reading-North Reading Chamber of Commerce encourages everyone to buy local and reinvest back into the community through job creation, taxes and charitable donations. Reading Girl Scout Troop 73712 asks you to buy local by visiting The Hitching Post on Haven Street or Gregory’s on Main Street to purchase a “Sights of Reading” calendar. RMHS scouts produced a "Sights of Reading" calendar.
Enjoy beautiful photos of Reading hanging on your wall for all of 2013! Reading High School Scouts have produced the 2013 “Sights of Reading” calendar which hangs 11” X 17” with each month displaying an 8 ½” X 11” photo of a sight in Reading. The calendar was produced for 2010 and 2012 and sold out both years. "We love producing calendars that everyone can enjoy and are thrilled to have them again this year!" Kasey said. Flowers placed on a lawn on Forest Street as part of a girl scout fundraiser were stolen last night.
Flowers that were presented to a Reading home on Forest Street as part of a Reading Girl Scout Fundraiser were stolen last night. According to girl scout mother Michelle Goldner, the girl scouts are hoping to have the flowers returned as soon as possible. Reading Girl Scout Troop 71273 is currently running a fundraiser called Showers of Flowers. Those who want to participate in the fundraiser pay to have a friend or family member’s lawn covered with 20 colorful pinwheel flowers. The flowers can be a present for a birthday, graduation or just because. Proceeds will go toward the troop’s trip to Rocking Horse Ranch next year. A benefit to get a local Girl Scout Troop to the Girls Scouts’ 100th birthday in DC.
Spiky thin legs support flaming pink bodies. When they flock to a Reading lawn, they draw attention, often smiles. The eight girls in Cadette Girl Scout Troop 71290 are “flocking” to raise money to attend the 100th year celebration of girl scouting in Washington, DC -- with plastic flamingos. Attending the celebration with some 200,000 other girl scouts from the United States and England and Scotland would be a “once in a lifetime” experience, according to troop co-leader Ellen Penafiel. The cost would be about $450 per girl. So the girls came up with a couple of fundraising ideas and are learning some life skills as they raise money for the trip.
