Rockets Among Boys Lacrosse Playoff Favorites

Reading High School learned its playoff positioning when the MIAA released its pairings on Friday.

The East Division 2 boys lacrosse postseason bracket features a long list of teams. Among the favorites is a group of locals, the Reading High School Rockets. On Friday the Rockets learned their playoff fate as the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association released its playoff pairings for the field of 32 teams. Near the top is Reading, which snagged the No. 3 seed courtesy of a stellar 16-2 regular season record. Thanks to their strong finish, the Rockets earned a date with No. 30 ranked Nauset, which will visit town on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in a preliminary round contest. Lady Rockets Lacrosse is Postseason Bound

The MIAA released its postseason pairings on Thursday, and Reading snagged the No. 10 seed in North Division 1.

The Reading High School girls lacrosse team now knows its playoff fate. On Thursday the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association announced its girls lacrosse postseason pairings, which include an appearance by the Rockets. Reading earned the No. 10 seed in the North Division 1 tournament thanks to a record of 12-5 during the regular season.  As a result, the locals snagged a preliminary round bye and will take on No. 7 ranked Lincoln-Sudbury on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The winner of that game will take on either No. 2 Framingham or lower seeded Beverly or Lexington, which play in the preliminaries for the right to take on Framingham in the first round. Reading Softball Edged by Visiting Woburn

On Friday, the Lady Rockets played well but didn't have enough to overcome the Tanners, falling by a 4-1 margin.

Though the Reading High School softball team hung close with visiting Woburn on Friday afternoon, the Rockets didn't have quite enough fire power at the plate to come out with a victory. Woburn took the lead early and held it throughout, going on to a 4-1 victory over the locals. With the setback, Reading is now 11-7 on the year with a 6-4 mark in Middlesex League play. Woburn, meanwhile, improved to 11-8 on the year, one spot behind the Rockets in the standings with a 4-6 league record.

Baseball Pulls Away to Thump Visiting Woburn

Reading took a close game and pulled away in the middle innings, cruising to an 8-0 home win on Friday.

Reading High School and Woburn are on opposite ends of the Middlesex League standings. And on Friday, the results showed that. The Rockets took a close game and blew it open during the middle innings, cruising to an 8-0 home win over the visiting Tanners. Thanks to the victory, Reading improved to 10-5 on the year with a 6-3 league mark, good for first place. Woburn, meanwhile, dropped to 2-14 on the year, 1-9 in league play.

Powerful Rockets Push Past Woburn in Second Half

The Reading High School boys lacrosse team proved in the final two quarters Tuesday why it's ranked as one of the best teams in the state, earning a 14-5 win.

Reading High School is ranked among the top boys lacrosse teams in the state. The Rockets showed why during the second half of Tuesday afternoon's game against visiting Woburn. The Reading coaching staff was far from thrilled entering halftime leading the Tanners by only a 5-3 margin. But the staff had to have been more than pleased with the team's effort in the final two periods as the Rockets opened things up and went on to a 14-5 win. During the first half of the contest, the scoring was balanced throughout the roster for the Rockets. Mark Dente notched goals on both of the shots in registered in the opening minutes while Brian Shea, Andrew Bourque and Mike Seibold fired one home as well in the early goings. PHOTOS: Rockets Sweep WHS Baseball and Softball

Reading High School's teams hit the diamond on Tuesday in a pair of road games against Wilmington High School.

Spring season is in full swing, and so are the Reading High School baseball and softball teams. On Tuesday, both teams hit the diamond in Wilmington, taking on the Wildcats in separate locations. At Town Park, the softball team fell behind early in the contest before making a comeback against the home team, and recapturing the lead at 2-1 early on. Reading went on to polish off a 5-1 victory. Meanwhile at Wilmington High School, the Rockets withstood a strong effort from the Wildcats and pulled away late, earning a 7-1 win. Reading, ranked No. 7 in the state by ESPNBoston.com, led just 4-1 until the final frame when it tacked on the insurance.
