The rivalry continues this Thanksgiving as the Stoneham High School Spartans take on the Reading Rockets in the annual Thanksgiving Day Football game taking place at 10:15 a.m. at Reading Memorial High School, 62 Oakland Road. This game marks the 94th meeting between the two teams, the Thanksgiving Day Game being played every year since 1923. The record now stands at 61-24-8 in favor of Reading. The Stoneham High School girls basketball team fell to Reading Memorial High, 69-56, Friday night at Hawkes Field House, as the Lady Rockets claimed the regular season league crown.
READING — Wait, stop me if you’ve heard this one before: a late-season game between Reading Memorial High School and Stoneham High's girls basketball teams with the league title on the line. It was nearly a case of history repeating itself last night, as the Lady Rockets and Lady Spartans squared off in a Middlesex League matchup with the regular-season crown hanging in the balance. Last year, Stoneham dropped the Lady Rockets, 51-34, in Stoneham on Feb. 12, forcing a three-way split of the crown between themselves, Reading and Melrose.
