ReplyI've been re-reading novels by Robert B. Parker, as part of North Reading reads 2013, his first novel, "The Godwulf Manuscript," "Promised Land," and "A Catskill Eagle." Finally read "Wild," Cheryl Strayed's amazing account of her trek on the Pacific Crest Trail. Also "After Visting Friends: A Son's Story," a haunting new memoir by Michael Hainey. And Joan Wickersham's "The News from Spain, Seven Variations on a Love Story." Just starting "The Burn Palace" a thriller set in Rhode Island by Stephen Dobyns, recommended by a friend.

ReplySuzanne Korn gave an outstanding presentation at the library last night, providing a wealth of information about Early American stenciling and wall murals, with a special emphasis on Rufus Porter, who painted the murals in the Damon Tavern Ballroom, and in several houses in North Reading. Thank you to the North Reading Historical and Antiquarian Society and the Friends of the Library for sponsoring this special program.

We were thrilled that Laura Harrington visited the library. She was very generous with her time. Alice Bliss is a beautiful novel and is now on many high school and college reading lists.
