ReplyThe Town Forest Committee appeared to be quite bewildered that there was so much public opposition to their attempt to make the Town Forest their own private nature preserve.

One day before the Town Forest Committee meeting and the committee has yet to post the proposed rule changes on their website. Me thinks the committee was attempting to implement these new rules without a public discussion to satisfy personal agendas, and they got caught. They know what's best for all of us.

Proposed Rule #14. Dogs may enter the Town Forest provided that they are accompanied by and under the effective voice control of some person. No person may walk more than three dogs. The person accompanying the dog shall promptly remove feces deposited by the dog in the Town Forest. Dogs must be leashed within 200 feet of paved roads or parking areas. – or – The Town Forest Committee may establish leash-on zones as needed to protect Town Forest users, dogs, and natural resources.
Effective Voice Control??? Earth to Town Forest Committee - What is Effective Voice Control? News Flash - Dogs don't understand the English language.

ReplyI am in complete concurrence with Fred van Magness, Sr. The Town Forest Committee has become another out of control committee that think they know what's best for all of us. It is rather interesting to note that when one goes to the Town Forest Committee website you can find Committee agenda(s) posted for several meetings, but there are no meeting minutes for any meeting whatsoever. Has there been a public outcry to revise the current Town Forest rules and regulations, or are the extremely restrictive proposed regulations being used to advance someone's personal agenda? In the interest of transparency, Will Finch should have stated in his previous posts that he is a member of the Town Forest Committee.

K - As you have three children under five years old, the possibility always exists that an employment change within your family could force you to move out of town. Your children would be forced to develop new friendships. Then what?

An important question needs to be asked of the Town Manager. Why, when posting the Notice of Public Hearing did the notice state the agenda of the Selectmen's Meeting was to vote on granting a liquor license, but failed to make mention of the USPS's presentation on the status of the current post office building on Haven Street?
