Temple Emanuel

Temple Emanuel of Andover will host the Essex Chamber Music Players (ECMP) for a Holocaust ("Yom HaShoah") Remembrance Day Concert on Sunday, May 5th at 4 pm. The musicians will honor Music of Composers who perished in the Holocaust. To register for this free concert that is open to the public, <a href="https://templeemanuel.net/urj-events/yom-hashoah-remembrance-day-concert/?d=2024-05-05%2016%3A00" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">click here</a>. The concert and remembrance service will be held live at Temple Emanuel of Andover, 7 Haggetts Pond Road, Andover, MA 01810 and available via Zoom.
“We are honored to offer this free concert for the community to come together to commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day, the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising which will be recognized internationally on Sunday, May 5 – Monday, May 6,” said Rabbi Jessica Spitalnic Mates, Temple Emanuel Interim Rabbi. “We thank the Andover Cultural Committee for sponsoring this event and Temple Emanuel member Michael Finegold, ECMP artistic director, and music researcher who has been instrumental in planning this event along with Cantor Rachel Reef-Simpson and David Derow of the ECMP committee.”
ECMP musicians include Barbara Kilduff - Soprano, Michael Finegold – Flute, Rebecca Mac – Violin, Johnny Mok – Cello, and Constantine Finehouse – Piano as well as Cantor Rachel Reef-Simpson and will be narrated by David Derow of the ECMP committee. These talented musicians will pay tribute to composers who died in the Holocaust including Viktor Ullman, Dick Kattenburg, Gideon Klein, Ilse Weber, Zigmund Schul, Hannah Szenes, and Leo Smith. Temple Emanuel of Andover will also offer additional programs to honor Holocaust Remembrance Day. On Monday, June 3 the temple will underwrite <a href="https://templeemanuel.net/urj-events/justice-jacksons-nuremberg-trials-a-special-event-for-merrimack-valley-area-attorneys-and-judges/?d=2024-06-03%2018%3A00" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Justice Jackson’s Nuremburg Trials Courtroom</a> – a special event for Merrimack Valley area attorneys and judges moderated by Rabbi Jessica Spitalnic Mates. On Saturday, June 22 there will be a special screening of the documentary <a href="https://templeemanuel.net/urj-events/special-documentary-showing-of-nathan-ism-dinner-and-havdalah/?d=2024-06-22%2018%3A00" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">NATHAN-ism</a> followed by a Q&amp;A with filmmaker Elan Golod. The course is designed for adults that want to learn basic mental health first aid skills to support other adults. The course will be taught by Taunya L. Jarzyniecki, Public Safety Clinician. 
The course will teach participants an ‘easy to remember’ action plan including: how to assess a situation, listen nonjudgmentally, give reassurance and information, and to encourage appropriate professional help, self-help and other support strategies.

The Reading Community Singers are pleased to present their Spring Concert – Melodies of Memory – On Saturday, May 11 at 7:30 pm, at Reading Memorial High School. Elijah Botkin, Artistic Director, will be conducting, and Joe Beninati will be Accompanist. 
Among the “Melodies” and “Memories” to be shared will be "Danny Boy", "A Jungle Book" medley, "Animal Crackers" and "Music Vibrates in the Memory", to mention a few. In addition, Botkin has also created special arrangements for some of the music that the Band will be playing. 
Special Guest Performer for this Concert is Camille Hodgkins, who will be awarded RCS’s Scholarship for 2024. Ms. Hodgkins is a graduate of Melrose High School, and is currently furthering her music education at UMass Amherst, towards becoming a private vocal coach and performer.

Beth's topic will be "Orchids are different but not difficult". She will share her wealth of knowledge about growing Orchids in the Northeast.
