Rachel Thomson Nets Two as Field Hockey Holds on for Win

Reading High School snagged a 3-0 lead over Wilmington on Saturday and escaped with a 3-2 decision.

The Reading High School field hockey team jumped out to an early lead and seemed to be control during a Middlesex League contest on Saturday morning. Though the game got a little too close for comfort, the Lady Rockets escaped town with a 3-2 victory to open the 2013 season.

Kate McCarthy opened the scoring for Reading in the first half while Rachel Thomson followed that up with two goals of her own to give the locals a 3-0 edge.

Wilmington, however, hung around and eventually pulled within 3-2. The Lady Wildcats were unable to manage the equalizer, however, and Reading snagged its first victory of the season.

The Rockets next hits the field Tuesday at home with a tilt versus Burlington High School at 3:30 p.m.
