North Reading School Building Project Approved

The school building project passed with 3,075 votes.

 

The school building project passed at the Special Election Saturday 3,075 to 802 and soon North Reading will have a new middle school and high school with shared core facilities.

The project passed at Town Meeting on Monday with two-thirds majority vote.

The new high school is projected to open in 2014, and the middle school in 2015. 

The total cost for a new middle/high school will be $107.7 million. The Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) will reimburse 51.49 percent of eligible costs. The cost would be bonded for 25 years. According to school officials, the tax rate will increase 10.75 percent. The average home value of $450,100 will see an increase of $700.

Perhaps you should attend the next adult education class to learn how to spell. New schools are not the answer to provide a better education to our CHILDREN, truly dedicated teachers are.
