North Reading Parks and Recreation Improves Clarke Park

Earlier this Fall the North Reading Parks and Recreation Department started working on improvements at Clarke Park. The work is complete and the park now has several new additions.

According to Parks and Recreation Operations Director/Department Head Maureen Stevens the playground improvements were complete as of last week. The old wooden climbing structures were removed to make room for the new equipment. 

The park now has a new climbing structure, a whale and frog spring rider, a tether ball pole, bike rack and merry-go-round. There is also new mulch in the tot lot, which is playground mulch not regular mulch. According to the Martins Pond Facebook page, the blend is made with hardwoods to form a mat with air space that creates a spongy surface. 

The parking lot was also redone with porous pavement to prevent puddles and ice. 

"The improvements were funded by the North Reading Parks and Recreation Department and the incredible group of volunteers of the Martin’s Pond Association," Stevens said.
