Dunkin' Donuts Opening on Walkers Brook Drive

Reading will soon have another Dunkin' Donuts.

A new Dunkin' Donuts will be opening in town on Walkers Brook Drive. A site plan review for the donut shop was recently approved by the Planning Commission, according to Staff Planner Jessie Wilson.

The new Dunkins will be located at 87 Walkers Brook Drive inside the Shell Gas Station, which is owned by longtime Reading resident Rick Camuso and his brother, Boxford resident Bill Camuso. The brothers have owned the gas station since they bought it from the Shell Oil Company about three years ago.

Shortly after they purchased the station, Dunkin' Donuts approached them about possibly adding a donut shop to the gas station. They have been working with Dunkin' Donuts and the town for about a year to get the proper permits.

The Planning Commission recently approved the site plan review for the donut shop and according to Rick Camuso, they currently have a bid out for the construction work. They hope to open the Dunkins at some point this summer, he said.

"I would imagine it's going to be a couple months just to do the construction, so we are looking at the summertime, hopefully, if everything goes right,” Rick Camuso said.

The shop will offer a drive through and counter service only, according to Rick Camuso. There will not be a seating area inside, he said.

There will be a two to four week period that the gas station will be closed during the construction, but those dates are not yet confirmed.

That makes four actually. I love the folks who order everything but the kitchen sink at the drive thru, only because they're too lazy to get out of their vehicle while still wearing their slippers.

I love DD, but we already have three of them in Reading (and that doesn't even count the ones on Main Street in Stoneham off of Governors Road or the one just across the border in Wilmington on Salem Street). Exactly how many DDs does the Town need? I'd like to see a bit more variety and flavor in town.

Don't forget about the DD on West street...there is also a DD just over border in N. Reading. Really, though, the new one, one @ shell on Main, and West street ones are mere satellite locales existing mainly to serve the drive-thru crowd. If you want a freshly made doughnut, you know to avoid DD (Honey Dew & Heavenly are both good alternatives). What I would like on Walker's Brook is another McD's that doesn't have a drive-thru feeding into a very congested intersection, as the one on Main does.

I knew I was forgetting one! 110 Main Street, 434 Main Street, 273 Salem Street, 4 West Street, and, now, 87 Walkers Brook Drive. Although I agree that this one makes more sense because it is convenient on/off the 128 ramp and a little more amenable to drive-thru traffic.

Plus no homes behind it to be disturbed by the noise, truck deliveries, etc., as is the case for most of the other locations. Walker's brook drive seems to have a very decent traffic flow design, at least for Reading.
