Green Tomato Celebrates 10 Years in Reading

Stop by The Green Tomato on July 25 for free samples.

The Green Tomato will celebrate 10 years in Reading on July 25. To thank customers, the restaurant will be serving free samples of new and regular items on their menu.

According to Owner John Ryan there will be a tent outside on July 25 from noon to 6 p.m. with samples and free drinks.

A roasted beet salad, butternut bisque with fresh crabmeat and shrimp and a grilled veggie sandwich are just some of the new menu items customers can try on their anniversary.

The restaurant aims to serve fresh, healthy meals, Ryan said, and they are working on organic, vegan, and gluten free options for their menu. He shops for ingredients everyday and nothing comes out of a can.

“I got to the market every morning and buy everything fresh,” he said.

The menu is always changing with new menu ideas, Ryan said, but "our main theme is healthy and good."

They specialize in takeout and corporate events, but they do have a few seats inside and in the summer, an outdoor café that seats about 30 people.

"I'd like to thank the people in the town because they’ve supported us for 10 years,” he said.

Ryan is also grateful for his staff, which is the original staff that started 10 years ago.
