Five Things to Know Today: Aug. 29

Your guide to Reading and North Reading today.

Today is Wednesday, Aug. 29. Here are five things you need to know today:

1. The weather. The temperature will reach 77 degrees in the afternoon and drop to 52 in the evening. Expect sunny skies.

2. Reading's First Day of School. Reading students start school again today. If you haven't yet, take a look at our back to school guide.

3. Hood School Social. The  staff is hosting their annual popsicle social for all incoming kindergartners and their parents. Stop by the at 2:30 p.m. 

4. Blood Drive. There will be an at the  in Reading at 1 p.m. Donors will receive a coupon for a free container of SunBrew Ice Tea.

5. Annual Teddy Bear Picnic. The will be held at  from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The cost is $8. Bring your favorite stuffed animal, lunch and a blanket. Pre-registration is encouraged. The rain date will be Thursday, Aug. 30.
