How Sandy Affected Reading and North Reading
Both towns had trees down, roads blocked for a short period of time and power outages due to Hurricane Sandy.
Hurricane Sandy made her way to Reading and North Reading Monday. Both towns had to deal with strong winds and rain for most of the day.
Closings and cancellations
Schools in Reading will have a one hour delayed start Tuesday. There will be no a.m. Kindergarten, no RISE Morning RISE Preschool, and no morning extended day programs.
North Reading will have school Tuesday.

Both Reading and and North Reading schools were closed Monday.
Both the Reading Board of Selectmen meeting and Board of Assessors meeting Tuesday evening are cancelled.

According to North Reading DPW Director Richard Carnevale, due to the weather, curbside trash and recycling has been pushed back to Wednesday.
Trash, recycling and leaf pickup in Reading will be pushed back one day. For more information, please contact the DPW at 781-942-9077.
Damage and road closures
In North Reading, a tree crashed through a roof on Williams Road. There were no injuries.
Also in North Reading, a tree fell on a pickup truck near Southwick Road. A tree fell on a car on Southwick Road. A tree down on Erwin Road in caused the road to be closed for under an hour. Police worked with local utility companies on down power-lines at 35 Concord Street.
According to the North Reading Police Department's Facebook page, they responded to over 40 storm related calls for service Monday before 8 p.m.
North Avenue in Wakefield to the Reading line was also closed for a short period.

North Reading:
- Caroline Road
- Porter Road
- April Lane
- Dogwood and Adams
Reading:
- Tamarack Road, Richards Rd. and Timberneck Drive. This area was expected to be restored by 8:30 p.m. Monday
- Plymouth Road
- Howard Street
- Pearl Street
- Milton Street
- Woburn Street
