Wood End Student Completes 7-Mile Race to Raise Money for MS

Wood End Student Andrew Benassi recently completed the Falmouth Road Race in honor of his mom, and to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis research. He has only been running for about a year, but still wanted to complete the seven-mile run in hopes that the money he raised will go towards finding a cure for MS.

His mother Josie was diagnosed with MS over three years ago, according to his father Joe. Joe ran the race last year and raised about $1200. His son joined him this year and the pair raised double.

Their team, called Josie's Joggers, raised $3400. Andrew played a big part in that, raising $2600.

"One of the donations was from friends of Andrew who, along with their parent's donation, pitched in lemonade stand money! The money raised will go to the National MS Society to help fund MS research," Joe said.

Andrew finished the race with a time of 1:06:07, beating his dad by a full minute!

"We are so proud of Andrew for doing this for his Mom and he is already looking forward to running again as part of the MS race team at next year's Falmouth Road Race," Joe said. "I am truly overwhelmed with the support we got (both through donations and by the cheers of neighbors along the course). Reading is an amazing town made even better by it's residents."
