Letter From RPD Regarding Newtown Shooting

The Reading Police Department responds to the Newtown tragedy.

The following was submitted by the Reading Police Department:

Dear Reading Residents,

On behalf of the Reading Police Department, our hearts go out to all the people in Newtown, CT, the victims and their families, the innocent witnesses, and the first responders who will need to process those scenes for the rest of their lives.  Such unthinkable acts can only cause us to reach out to our own loved ones, our family members and our children to hold them a little tighter, embrace them a little longer, as we all try to cope with this terrible tragedy and horrific act of violence.

In the wake of last Friday’s horrific events, we want to assure our Community that the Reading Police Department in conjunction with all our schools in the Town of Reading do have plans in place that prepare our response through vigilant and relentless training that deals specifically with these types of situations.  Furthermore, we will be reviewing these plans in light of any intelligence gleaned from Friday’s events to better prepare our response to situations such as the one in Newtown, CT.

We have provided our residents with two web links below that may provide you with some guidance and be helpful when speaking with our children and understanding some of the issues surrounding this type of event.
